Shilpsutra Tale

Shilpsutra, as a brand, aims to bring the rare, premium, and exquisite fashion intricacies of artisans from different parts of India to the forefront for the masses across the world.

We began our journey by venturing into footwear design, creating contemporary designs with handiwork that was privy to the Ranis & Maharanis of the past! The idea came to us when finding the right pair of women’s jutti for a traditional family occasion became almost a nightmare and Shilpa (our founder) had to design it on her own. This led to Shilpa letting go of her job with one of the leading designers to chase her dream of setting up Shilpsutra. The brand has now become her digital daughter!

Our first category – the Punjabi Juttis – did exceptionally well in the global market & marked the beginning of an expansion. With COVID striking the world, Shilpasutra has taken this time to reflect on what our true purpose is to further ensure a continuous & ethical work culture for the artisans associated with us.

To continue the momentum & to keep up with our customer interests & requirements we are now venturing into Apparels as one of the categories to launch. This new addition seems like a natural extension from what we already do today. We will cover both home wear and festive wear apparels and needless to say, each piece will be a unique design embellished with delicate embroideries.

The World of Shilpa and Aparna

Shilpa Agarwalla, a NIIFT Delhi alumnus, founded Shilpsutra in 2015 soon after working for some of the leading designers in the industry. She has played a key role in designing the unique online-focused business model which helped her create the mass luxury segment in the women’s fashion footwear category. Her expertise in the craft and strong entrepreneurial skills have paved the way for Shilpsutra as a brand to look out for.

“My aim is to transform Shilpsutra into a global Indian fashion brand and our journey has just begun” – Shilpa Agarwalla

Aparna, a Pearl Academy, Delhi alumnus, became a part of Shilpsutra’s exciting journey with its clothing line in 2020. Running her own label, with diverse experience in the industry and an eye for futuristic design, she is an integral force in Shilpsutra’s future design and category extensions.

The two friends who always admired each other's work and perspective connected over the idea of creating opportunity and hope for artisans at the time of pandemic and deliver on customer requirements through an affordable luxury clothing line.

“With Shilpsutra we are looking at a platform full of opportunities and exciting product range for one and all” – Aparna

Every Shilpsutra outfit is made with 100% pure cotton, pure silk organza, intricately embroidered with cotton thread. To ensure that the delicacy and softness of your garment are maintained, please follow the instructions:

Use cold water: Conserve energy and color! Choosing cold water is not only better for the environment, but it also helps to conserve the fragile fabric and color of the item.

The outfits are dry clean friendly. Do not bleach or use chlorine.

In case they have a spot of dirt, simply wipe them clean with a mild cleanser like a handwash and a soft clean cloth.

For embellished shoes – Each embellishment is hand embroidered securely. A little pouch of extra embellishments is given with each purchase as well.

You can even dry clean your shoes to preserve them longer.

We recommend that you always keep the juttis wrapped in the muslin bag that comes along with your precious purchase. Muslin cloth lets the product breathe easily and keeps it shining for long.

Things to remember!

* It's best to avoid water in leather base juttis and loafers.

*Shoes like the sliders and kolapuri are water-resistant and can withstand some water.

*Keep the shoes moist free to preserve them for longer.
